Environmental Excursions |
Unforgettable landscapes await the traveller who, whether on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, or by car visits Bagno Vignoni, Vignoni Alto, Castello di Ripa D’Orcia, the chapel of Madonna di Vitaletta, the gorge of the Orcia River, the ancient abbeys of Sant’ Antimo, Sant’ Anna in Camprena and Monte Oliveto, Pienza, Mount Amiata and the small towns hidden in its woods, where during winter it is possible to ski, and in summer, temperatures are half those in the valley.
For those, however, wishing to spend relaxing days at the beach, in little more than an hour it is possible to reach the Argentario promontory, one of the most beautiful parts of the Italian coastline. The promontory dominates the shoreline and is particularly attractive to those who like unspoilt natural settings.
Along the road of Nature:
GARAVICCHIO-Giardino dei Tarocchi Niki de Saint-Phalle supplied the park with art and architecture, Jean Tinguely the engineering. An overwhelming, joyful commemoration of Surrealism throughout Niki’s wonderful, esoteric journey, which begs Nature on behalf of mankind to relive a spontaneous meeting with the imaginary. The large sculptures are replicas of the Principle Mysteries of the Tarots, an allegorical summary of life. MONTE ARGENTARIO The highest promontory in Tuscany (635m) is a fossilised island attached to the coast by the sand and gravel bars of the Giannella (a WWF wildlife oasis since 1972) and of the Feniglia. The massif gets its name from the sunrays flashing on the micaceous rocks, which form a multitude of coves and precipitous gorges. The Spanish and Neapolitan influence dating back to the period of the State of Presidii (16th-18th century) remain evident to this day in the dialect and physiognomy of the local inhabitants. Boats set sail from here to the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.
PIEVASCIATA- Parco Sculture del Chianti In the 13 wooded hectares belonging to Piero and Rosalba Giadrossi, 20 artists of different nationalities use contemporary images to express the emotions nature has suggested to them and which they share with centuries-old oak trees planting their roots in the same ground. Each work belongs to a specific area: as it was designed within and for that particular area only.
SEGGIANO-Giardino di Daniel Spoerri There is art: that of the second vanguard of Daniel Spoerri and the current one, with works of more than 30 Italian and foreign artists. But above all, there is a wooded land, a modern Bomarzo, which has promised to be a faithful companion to the natural landscape. |
